Good observation. The bullet is 6.5cm custom lapped monolithic solid copper type. They have been used to cull hundreds deer and elk. Longest shot was around 650yd, and no failure so far. Probably not my first choice, I would choose Barnes TSX instead. That said, this probably gives more evidence that a plain FMJ precision bullet (lead core) would do the job well do. Shot placement is key.
The permit is for cow elk only. We don't want to shoot the resting one because the shrubs can deflect bullet. She was not pregnant. There are many browsing in the herd. She was chosen because she presented broadside.
