new barrel break in procedure:
1. Install bore guide.
2. Clean bore thoroughly with KG-1. It's amazing what comes out of a new barrel!
3. With KG-2 Bore Polish on two felt pellets, give the throat about 50 very short strokes. Tighten the pellets on the adapter after the first 25 strokes.
4. With KG-2 on two fresh felt pellets, give the entire barrel 20 passes. I cap the muzzle to prevent the felt pellets exiting. If you do make the mistake of pushing the felt pellets out the muzzle, DO NOT pull the felt pellets back through the crown. Remove the pellet adapter and begin again at the throat.
5. Remove bore guide.
6. Flush chamber and throat with KG-3 aerosol cleaner.
7. Swab out the chamber thoroughly with KG-3 on clean patches.
8. Reinstall bore guide.
9. Push patches with KG-3 through the bore until clean or you just can't stand it. It's harder to get the KG-2 out than it is to apply it in Step 4! But, these passes with patches are picking up residual KG-2 and actually doing just a bit more polishing in the process - and all going in the same direction as the bullet.
10. Push two dry patches through bore.
11. Push two patches wet with KG-4 Oil through the bore. You'll pick up a surprising amount of the residual KG-2 with the oily patches.
12. Run a dry patch through the bore.
I will clean the bore after the first range session, but just with KG-1 to remove the carbon. The KG-1 gets a lot of the copper, anyway, in the process. One oily KG-4 patch, a dry patch, and I'm done. Then, I'll clean if I feel accuracy is falling off, or every few hundred rounds, whichever occurs first.
Don't expect results like this with a production barrel.
