行动起来,和自己相关的政治活动需要参与--
下文说的是Northern Virginia (Fairfax county)的 archery program的:
Perhaps you noticed two “deer related” articles in the December 25 edition of the Washington Post. Yes, one article spoke to the continued effort by some groups for the sterilization program that is currently being “pushed” locally and in other parts of the country… (All be it at $1000 a pop for each doe.) The other article related to the sharp shooting efforts at Rock Creek Park in DC. I will soon be initiating efforts at getting the Deer Political Action Committee up and running. This is a second invitation for you or any of your interested park group hunters to join in the organizing efforts and continued communication with “the powers to be” … Thanks
Group Leaders: All good things could continue … or … come to an end. The archery deer management program in the parks is well underway for its 5th or 6th year. Fortunately the Fairfax County Board of Supervisor along with the Park Authority and Regional Parks, have had the foresight and fortitude to recognize the need for managing the overwhelming number of deer in the parks. However, political winds are constantly blowing and things can change sometimes on a dime. We know that some Supervisors take a lot of flak from anti-hunting activists community members for the management program and it is hard to know how soon some supervisors may want to change their mind or limit their support. Anti groups sometimes are well funded and well organized in presenting unfounded or misleading information … and … then you have programs like the Fairfax City (fertilization “study”) that anti’s and other special interest groups would like to push as the norm for controlling deer population growth. Bottom line … it seems to me, that it is time, for the hunting community to look toward forming a solid plan for insuring that the current management program continues and is improved. To that end I am suggesting that we look to forming a Fairfax County Deer Political Action Committee to formulate plans to continue to lobby “the powers to be” in regards to the positive and least cost aspects of the current program. The committee can also keep the community informed as to the need for safe, effective, professional deer management. The Budget process for the next fiscal year is already in progress. Many programs are “make or break" in regards to the overall budget … we have time to insure that the current program continues and we can prepare to speak in support at the April open hearings on the budget….but…we need to start now. … If you are interested in helping pull together a plan for support … please let me know ASAP or at least prior to the middle of December. I will then take the lead in getting the group together and organized initially … thanks…
