The Russian government has cancelled their order for Glock 17 and Glock 26 pistols after an investigation found that the pistols were being purchased for $6,000 each. These normally retail for approximately $550-$600. Russia’s Deputy Head of Defense Contracting has resigned. Jane’s reports

Russia’s Federal Defence Contracts’ Service has cancelled a planned order from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) for Austrian-made Glock pistols, following criticism that the contract was overpriced.
The order has become known in local media as the ‘Golden Gun’ deal, which was destined to equip a Russian special forces unit, and was cancelled on 25 October.
An “audit found that the contracting authority unreasonably inflated the proposed contract price. Other agencies purchase these guns almost four times cheaper”, the MoD said.
The Deputy Head of Defence Contracting, Alexander Dombrowsk, has since resigned.
